Plate Tectonics
Plate tectonics is the theory that pieces of the earths lithosphere, called pates move about slowly on top of the asthenosphere.
Continental Drift is the theory that the continents were once joined in a single supercontinent (Named Pangaea) , which the broke into pieces and moved apart. This theory explains why the continents seem to fit together as if they were pieces of a puzzle. This theory is thought to be over the time period of the Earth. There were some problems with this theory how could land plow through rock? Years later after the continental drift was proposed the theory of plate tectonics was introduced. The theory of Plate Tectonics is the theory that the lithosphere is divided into a couple dozen plates that move around on the earths surface when they move that is when earthquake occur. Plate boundaries are the ways plates an meet there are three types: divergent, convergent, and transform boundaries. When the plates move for each of the three types of boundaries they all move in different ways. Also with the theory of plate tectonics geologist have found that most mountains are formed on a plate boundary.
